We are assessing and responding to the lasting effects of the pandemic.
As we continue to understand and address how the pandemic has affected student learning and well-being, we’re focusing on two levers—academic rigor that meets students where they are and continuing to cultivate a strong sense of belonging and community at our schools.
We know KIPP Northern California is uniquely positioned to fulfill the promise of a high quality education. Our students are largely achieving at rates higher than their peer groups—including students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Compared to like students across the state, our schools are outperforming the state average by nearly 10 points in both math and English Language Arts.
In addition, over 80% of our schools made substantial gains in student learning on the English Language Arts assessment this past school year, meaning that they either outperformed the state average for performance or made significant growth with students.
All students deserve to be academically challenged.
We believe all students deserve access to rigorous coursework. Our AP for All initiative aims to end racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic gaps in Advanced Placement (AP) course enrollment in order to better prepare students for college and career. And our AP participation and success rates prove students are rising to the challenge—KIPP Northern California students take AP tests at nearly three times the statewide average and pass at more than double the rate for all California students.
Our students are graduating high school and matriculating to college at higher rates than their peers.
Over 98% of the Class of 2022 earned a high school diploma, and KIPP Northern California high school graduates are matriculating to four-year colleges and universities at over two times the state average. The KIPP Forward team supports and advises our high school students in matching to the college or secondary program of their choosing.

Research shows that students learn better when they feel represented by their teachers. Our teachers are racially diverse and use teaching approaches that affirm the identities and background of all of our students.
